BJJ – Coach – Fiona Lee
Fiona started training in October 2013, and is currently a brown belt. She comes from sunny Singapore and spends most of her days pining for the sun and warmth. She teaches some of the Beginners classes, answers most of your emails, and writes terrible captions for the gym’s social media. When not on the mats, she can mostly be found behind reception, hidden under more layers than the weather calls for.
While Fiona had dabbled in various sports throughout her life, she never committed to anything for an extended period of time and never did much physical activity outside of PE in school. Throughout her 12 years of formal schooling, she sang in the choir. The only physical endurance that she developed was the ability to stand for over 3 hours for rehearsals. So she believes and knows that you don’t have to be a sportsperson to start training BJJ.
As a woman who walks around at a very substantial weight of 48kg, she would like to encourage other women to not let size nor gender be a barrier to training. She’s also constantly on an active lookout to recruit more female training partners so that she has alternatives to training with the big boys.
Find her at Beginners classes Mondays to Fridays. Or train with her in the Intermediate-Advanced and Advanced classes! Sign up for a free trial class here.
